A lot of strange things are known to occur under the charged energy of the full moon. I painted this before, during, and after the Patagonia production of my extravaganza entitled: “Smidley Bulwarp and Friends”. A scene in a roadhouse was enacted, featuring performances and interactions between the clientele and the proprietress. The scene’s flavor originated with my friend Roy Young’s memory of being in port as a young sailor where he found himself doing business with the ladies of the night. I had learned of his memory when he looked at an earlier watercolor of a roadhouse scene with a sailor at a table in the back. “I’ve been there,” he said. I tried to restage his memory (with some additional mayhem) and he re-lived it by taking the part of the sailor in the play.
